๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Hello from Tassie! I'm here exploring the far south end of Australia thanks to @cheapticketssg and @tasmania. . On my last day in Tasmania, I took a full day food tour called the "Bruny Island Traveller Tour" with @pennicottjourneys. Bruny Island is just an hour drive and ferry ride south of Hobart. The tour was an amazing day of eating and sampling gourmet produce made locally in the island itself - we had cheese, beer, freshly shucked Tasmanian oysters, scones with jam made from local berries, local wine tasting, a lunch of tasmanian salmon, chocolate tasting, locally-made honey, and a gin and tonic at the whiskey house. Yeah I know some of you are probably wondering why I had G&T at a whiskey house, however the G&T ended up being the star of the trip for me (followed closely by the oysters, because i LOVE oysters). This magical gin right here is called Seclusion. It is Bruny Island's first gin release, distilled at the Tasman peninsula. So why is it so magical? In the bottle, it is originally a deep bright blue color but once you pour tonic water on it, it turns into this beautiful gradient of pale purple/pink color! I couldn't help but take a small bottle home for myself ๐Ÿ˜ . . Update: as @edwingohse and @macaroni.and.chi pointed out below, this change in color is from coloring made from Butterfly pea flower, which reacts with citrus to change color. I've been seeing a lot of butterfly pea in food and drinks lately, I think they are going to the next big thing! .

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Hello from Tassie! I'm here exploring the far south end of Australia thanks to @cheapticketssg and @tasmania. If climbing sharp steep rocks of Mount Amos is not your thing - don't worry! At Freycinet Park you can still enjoy amazing view and vivid colors without all the work. This is Honeymoon Bay, which is just right in front of a carpark in Freycinet. Honeymoon Bay is a gravely beach with plenty of flat granite rocks to sit on. It's a popular spot for picnic so definitely come here with some food! You can sit on one of the many rocks and enjoy the incredible view. We went to Freycinet Marine Farm (less than 10 mins drive from this spot) and got some grilled oysters to go. We wanted to try this one because it is three of Tasmanian specialties - oysters, tasman salmon, and cheese! Aside of this, we also had some natural oysters and garlic baked scallops (had them at the farm bc I couldn't wait). Oysters are one of my favorite food ๐Ÿคค and I've always been partial to the Tasmanian ones, so having them this fresh was truly a dream come true! .

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Hello from Tassie! I'm here exploring the far south end of Australia thanks to @cheapticketssg and @tasmania. I've been here for three days and finally made it out to Freycinet National Park. I have been dreaming about this view of Wine Glass bay, with it's azure water and white sand from the top of Mount Amos. Finally, I got to see it for myself today! It took us only 1 hour to go up but it was a challenging hike, full of sharp rocks at steep incline. You have to be on all fours for a good portion of the climb, but... the million-dollar view of Wineglass Bay that greets you at the top? That makes it all worth it. I definitely recommend packing a little snack so you can sit up there and enjoy the view once you make it up there (as many do). I packed myself ANZAC biscuit from a local bakery in Bicheno. It's a must-have for me whenever I am in Australia. These biscuits were sent by wives and women's groups to soldiers abroad because the ingredients do not spoil easily and the biscuits kept well during naval transportation. Going down Mount Amos is even harder - took me 1.5 hours to slide / crab-walk down, but it was a thousand times worth it!

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿถ Happy Lunar New Year from !! . One of the most common food symbol of the New Year in Chinese culture is Oranges, as they are a symbol of wealth and good luck, which comes from resemblance between the words for "orange" and "gold" (wealth) or "good luck". It is common in Chinese culture for homonyms to become a symbol of one another over time. . In Singapore, the custom for Lunar New Year is to have a family reunion dinner and visit relatives' houses especially over the first two days of the new year. When you are doing visitation, you as a guest would bring two (mandarin) oranges and present them to the host while wishing happy new year - the phrase we use for this is "Gong xi fa cai". If you are not married, your married relatives will also give you ang bao aka red envelope containing money. Then on top of that you are also expected to eat copious amount of food! . I did not go home for the new years this year and I don't have relatives in Singapore, so I spent the weekend in the kitchen instead, experimenting with cooking my own meals. I tried replicating KFC and Ikea meatballs! It was successful ๐Ÿ˜‹ .

part 3: The perfect autumn warm tones (late November 2017) . ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ Onigiri at Akame 48 Waterfall. I love checking out the grocery stores and convenience stores whenever I am in Japan. My absolute favorite thing to get? The onigiri! These Japanese Rice Ball is a staple snack - I get at least one a day. There are many types of onigiri - with salmon, tuna, chicken, egg or vegetarian ones with pickled plums or beans and sesame. After this trip, I was convinced Japan is the most beautiful country in the world. Theyโ€™ve got something for every season โ€“ Sakura in the spring, beautiful snowy mountains in Hokkaido (which Iโ€™ve yet to visit) in winter, amazing diving in Okinawa (still on my bucket list) and Momijigari in the fall. I shot this with @moment wide angle lens - I've been playing around with moment lenses and I absolutely love them! They really do make a difference to your mobile photos.

part 2: Brilliant yellow leaves amongst greeneries (late November 2017) . Yakimochi at Akame 48, a beautiful waterfall trail about an hour out of Osaka. We came here for another round of Momijigari, the autumn leaf hunting tradition (visit my blog for more information on this). Akame 48 is an easy trail in Mie prefecture, following a main river which forms many small and big waterfalls. There aren't exactly 48 waterfalls on the trail, but "48 waterfalls" signifies endless waterfalls in Japanese language. The area is also known as Ninja valley โ€“ the birthplace of Ninjas and home to giant Salamander. At the entrance to the waterfall, you'll pass by several snacks and souvenir shop. I recommend picking up some snacks to enjoy on the trail! But please look after your own trash since there are no bins inside. My favorite pick is yakimochi (็„ผใใ‚‚ใก) from one of the shops for 120 yen a piece. Yakimochi is grilled Japanese rice cake, which has a very sticky and soft texture when hot off the grill โ€“ that's why it has the plastic wrap to keep its shape. It's stuffed with sweet red bean paste inside, but it has a hint of saltiness on the outside โ€“ super delicious! . ๐Ÿ’กTrivia: In Japanese language, aside of "grilled rice cake", yakimochi could also mean "to be jealous" depending on the context of the sentence.

part 1: The red maple leaves (late November 2017) . Zarame senbei while watching the red autumn leaves at Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto. Those red things in the background? They are all red maple leaves! I had seen on TV and photos how the vibrant red they become in autumn, but I never thought I would get to see it with my own eyes. @op.118 and I discovered this type of senbei (japanese rice crackers) while walking around Kyoto. I'm used to senbei being savory with bits of seaweed, but this one is coated with Zarame (large crystal) sugar so it is sweet but still retain the a hint of soy saltiness similar to other senbeis. And it's very delicious, so much that we each got two more to go. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Momijigari () is the Japanese tradition of visiting areas where leaves have turned red in the autumn. โ€œMomijiโ€ means red leaves, and โ€œGariโ€ means hunting โ€“ so quite literally, it means hunting autumn leaves. It is said the tradition began in Edo period when royalties started visiting certain areas of Japan to look at the autumn leaves. I could see why, because the leaves have changed into its beautiful fall colors โ€“ Ginko trees turn brilliant yellow, Maple trees turn vibrant red, and other trees turn various shades of brown while some remained green โ€“ it makes for a warm blend of colors that is very pleasing to the eye. ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐ŸŒฝ This is how i spent the first day of 2018 - chilling out with butter grilled corn outside of La Brisa, the latest beach club in Canggu, Bali. We went for a walk north along the beach just outside of La Brisa to Perenan Beach which seems to be more popular with locals... and there were more local food! Of course I had to get some ๐Ÿ˜ Aside of this grilled corn, I tried some Tipat Cantok from the street vendor for Rp 10,000 a plate - thats less than $1! Tipat Cantok is a dish made up of variety of steamed vegetable, tofu and rice cake served with peanut sauce and sweet soy sauce. In java this is called gado-gado, which means "a mix of stuff". . I wrote up some of my favorite Seminyak recs in my blog. As usual, find the link above! ๐Ÿ”

๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‰ A vanilla and pink dragonfruit ice cream at the famous Ceking Rice Terrace in Ubud, Bali. There are plenty of rice fields in Ubud but this one is special - the rice fields are located on a steep cliff, which makes for amazing photo location! It might look beautiful in the photo but the sun was out full blast that day and i swear it was a million degrees out there. This ice cream was MUCH needed even if I had to inhale the ice cream as it started melting within minutes. ๐Ÿ˜… You have to go here super early, like 7-8am early, because the sun in Bali can get very strong. . I spent a week in Ubud to kick off the year. You might remember I posted instagram stories throughout the trip and lots of you have replied and asked me for recommendations! Well, this weekend I finally got around to writing my Ubud guide - as usual you can find the link above ๐Ÿ” Let me know what you think!

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ—ป First of 2018! Well, it's actually a - a cup of Balinese coffee that I had at the summit of Mount Batur in Bali. The coffee was meh, but the view from up there? Ace! It is overlooking Mount Agung - a nearby volcano which had just erupted a month ago and as you can see there is still a little bit of volcanic ash squirting out of the summit. I had the opportunity to hike Mount Batur when I was in Bali first week of the year. We were picked up at 2am from our hotel to do this hike, but it was one of the best hikes I've done! This is what I would call a high ROI hiking โ€“ the hike was relatively short and not that difficult, but the view above is amazing. While waiting for sunrise we were given boxed meals consisting of 2 soft-boiled eggs, banana sandwich, a piece of banana and an orange. Our guide told us the eggs were cooked using the volcano steam itself! She then took us to the cliff where we can see the steam up close. For more on Mount Batur trekking experience you can read my blog post on it. As usual, find the link in my bio above. ๐Ÿ”โ˜๐Ÿป

Yo guys, itโ€™s me. I hope you haven't forgotten about me! I know I havenโ€™t been posting much on @girleatworld this past year. The truth is I did do a lot of travelling this past year, but I guess I just have gotten more selective about what I put here. Sometimes I like to enjoy the moment - and not everything has to end up on this Instagram right? . I've been focusing more on my blog instead - documenting travel tips, stories and recommendations that (I hope) could be useful for those of you who needs it. I think Instagram is great, but blog is a more meaningful way to share travel stories. You can check out the link to my blog above. . That said - 2017 was a great travel year for me. In fact, it was one of my most traveled year to date. I reviewed the past year of trips, and holy crapโ€ฆ I DID do a lot of traveling. In total, I counted that I went to 15 countries across 3 continents. No wonder I ran out of leave at work by July ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ (For those who don't know, I still hold a full time job as a designer in Singapore). . Most of my 2018 plans are still up in the air, but one thing for sure is that I'm heading back to the states side, specifically New York to see my good friend @serenaslenses. For the time being though, Iโ€™ll be heading off to Bali tomorrow to celebrate NYE and spending my first week of 2018 there. Iโ€™ve been to Bali many times before but Iโ€™ve never actually spent time exploring the island, so I want to do it properly! Let me know if you have any recommendations especially for Ubud. . Aside from thatโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll just take everything as it comes. I know that no matter what, Iโ€™ll always end up traveling. . Alright guys - I'll see you in 2018!! hopefully with more exciting travel stories.
