My senior year of high school, we had a Japanese foreign exchange student. I remember driving her to school everyday and she had this crazy style - bleached hair, fashionable jewelry, and boots with like 3 inches of hair hanging off of them. I thought to myself, “I just don’t get it”. Japan seemed like the most foreign place in the world. . . Now that I’ve visited the country I’m starting to understand, but am still in awe of how different it is from America. They think before speaking? There’s Anime characters telling me what stop to get off on the train? Their taxi drivers wear gloves? Dude, I can buy dinner from a vending machine? Wait this is a hotel? it looks like a doghouse. Do I just crawl in there? ? . What do I have to do to get some of those vending machines in the states? Maybe I should think a bit more before blurting out anything that comes to mind... but I guess that’s the beauty of travel. It changes your perspective. I’ll never be the same.
I took this bus twice. The first time I had my head out the window, in awe the whole time. The second, I had my phone out the window, in an attempt to document the feeling of whipping around all 99 bends, each one revealing a new view. What an experience.
We set out to make it to Hooker Lake... but these little swimming pools along the way were too hard to pass up. We didn’t end up making it to our destination, but sometimes it’s just about enjoying the journey. And now we got something to go back for. . . Using @goTenna mesh to help us communicate in the backcountry. #imeshyou #sponsored
I’m a classic fair weather chaser. Most of my shots are bright sunny days. But to appreciate the nice days, you gotta go thru some dark ones. So here’s a sunset storm we caught at Milford Sound. . . Shot on @sonyalpha a7riii w/ a polarizer, 20sec, f14, 16mm, iso50, edited in lightroom. Props to @jess.wandering for staying perfectly still for 20 sec.
A few cars passed me skating this road. Back home when that happens they’re usually honking and throwing their arms in the air. Here they’re throwing shakas. I’ve never been somewhere with so many like minded people chasing feelings and living simply. Photo: @jess.wandering
