Wearing a hand me down tunic from @smeosmin - who knew something of Janet’s would fit me! You can’t tell in the picture but I’ve also got on my bluebird scarf to remind me of Chris. #theresabluebirdinmyheart #butidontweepdoyou #bukowski #rememberingchris #plussizeootd #effyourbeautystandards #girlswithpiercings #girlswithink #girlswithglasses #shamelessselfie
If you didn't know our friend Chris, I would love to introduce you someday. . But let me forewarn you, he is a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan who will happily talk good natured smack about your team! . Many of my childhood stories include Chris and his family. We attended the same school and church, so picnicking and bike riding and after VBS lightning bug catching and prisoners base games and softball and Christmas caroling... all of it, were memories made together... back when I thought it could never be a long time ago. . He was annoying when we were little in the fact that he gloated about how much older he was than me. Which to us = cool maturity. LOL. But really our birthdays were only 30 days apart. He was awesome in the fact that his wit was quick, his humor clever, his friendliness genuine. He cared about others. He loved Jesus. He knew baseball and football stats and scores like he was reading a teleprompter. His attitude about life? Positive. So admirable. For many reasons... but one is that... . I never saw him walk without crutches. In all of the aforementioned games and activities, he never ran. His bike was a special design with hand controls and pedals. And then when we were 9 years old, a surgery went horribly wrong and left him a paraplegic. It wasn't till I became a mom that I thought deeply of his brave parents heartache. . Chris was wheelchair bound for the next 16 years. . He sang with his mom at my high school graduation, became great friends with The Farmer, had part in our wedding. He called me Cindy Lou and usually sang it out with a booming bass voice. . The planet has not been the same since he left it, 23 years ago this week. But heaven is sweeter, probably louder too 😊with him there. And he's running. We are sure that he's never stopped running. . #rememberingChris 1969 - 1995 . “There will be a day with no more tears, no more pain, and no more fears There will be a day when the burdens of this place, Will be no more, we'll see Jesus face to face But until that day, we'll hold on to you always."
Rih Christopher. Please do something good today and everyday.
